Puerto Rico Suffers Island-Wide Blackout 7 Months After Hurricane Maria A spokesperson for the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority told NBC News that there was no power being generated on the island. Geraldo Quiñones López, to NBC News Lopez said that they are currently investigating the cause of the blackout and hope to restore power in 24-36 hours. This isn’t the first major blackout to hit Puerto Rico since Hurricane Maria, with almost 850,000 customers losing power last week after electrical lines failed when a tree fell on them.
